On the planet Telos, the Doctor and his friends encounter a party of archaeologists intent on uncovering the mythical ‘tomb of the Cybermen’. Only the Doctor seems aware of the folly of this venture, but suddenly it’s too late – the ice tombs are open, and the Cybermen are coming back to life… Trapped underground with the Cyber Controller and his acolytes, including the vermin-like Cybermats, the Doctor and company learn that they are to be turned into a new generation of Cybermen. To make matters worse, there is treachery and double-crossing amongst the humans.
The Doctor has been to Det-Sen Monastery before, and expects the welcome of a lifetime. But the monastery is a very different place from when the Doctor last came. Fearing an attack at any moment by the legendary Yeti, the monks are prepared to defend themselves, and see the Doctor as a threat.
The Doctor and his friends join forces with Travers, an English explorer out to prove the existence of the elusive abominable snowmen. But they soon discover that these Yeti are not the timid animals that Travers seeks. They are the unstoppable servants of an alien Intelligence.
Buried deep in the ice, scientists at Britannicus Base have discovered an ancient warrior. But this is no simple archaeological find. What they have found is the commander of a spaceship that crashed into the glacier thousands of years ago. Thawed from the ice, and knowing their home planet Mars is now a dead world, the Ice Warriors decide to make Earth their own…
The TARDIS arrives in a futuristic Australia, where the genius Salamander has found a way to end starvation by harnessing the sun’s energy and preventing natural disasters on a global scale. But there are those who believe Salamander’s office is moving towards dictatorship. One such person is Giles Kent, and he is immediately struck by the Doctor’s remarkable likeness to the great man. The Doctor and his companions infiltrate Salamander’s top secret research station and uncover a web of lies on a massive scale. Unless the wholesale deception can be revealed, global war looks set to break out…
After being caught up in a web…like substance on its journey through space, the TARDIS arrives in the tunnels of the London Underground railway system, only to find the web also in the tunnels … as is the Great Intelligence’s Yeti.
The TARDIS brings the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria to the south coast of present…day Earth. Something nasty is lurking in the gas pipelines of the North Sea, and before long the nearby refinery is under attack.
Landing on a foam covered beach, the travellers are at first mistaken for saboteurs. A number of the refinery personnel have been behaving strangely, and the base chief, Robson, is showing serious signs of stress. Meanwhile Maggie Harris, having been stung by a mysterious frond of sea vegetation, is menaced by the sinister engineers Oak and Quill.
As sentient foam and weed combine to frightening effect, it soon becomes clear that the danger emanates from beneath the sea. Can that really be a heartbeat coming from deep inside the refinery pipes? Will the Doctor and his friends be in time to prevent an entire take…over of Earth – and will they all escape with their lives?
Taking drastic measures to escape a TARDIS malfunction, the Doctor and Jamie arrive on a rocket, apparently deserted in space, and soon encounter its aggressive robot guard. When a blow to the head then renders the Doctor unconscious, Jamie’s only hope of rescue lies in contacting the Wheel space station which is orbiting nearby.
It’s not long before the Doctor and Jamie realise that their old adversaries, the Cybermen, are seeking to invade first the Wheel and then Earth itself. One by one the space station’s crew are being taken over, whilst deadly rodent-like Cybermats roam the space station and steadily consume its fuel supply. On top of everything, a meteorite storm is approaching ? but the Wheel’s defence system has been disabled…
