Silver Christmas
The Mandavax system was quiet. The black space lite up by tinkling bulbs of star. The planets lay silent their huge figure over shadowing the wonder of the magical stars. Suddenly a loud upsurge of red fire came from Meslaine. A small red round pod ejected from the planet jungle like surface which despite the cities half buried, like cards hiding from the oncoming tide, in the sand looked untouched by life which of course it hadn’t because despite two races of Human and Hath living there for all of a week. The surface had only become abundant with life.
Inside the small ship, now hurtling through space was a girl who seemed only in her mid-twenties at most was cheering with joy as she was sent through the atmosphere of the planet. The small screen beside her unusual controls became full with static before gently fading to two figures. One was a small dirty fair haired man with a rounded face and delicate feature who the girl recognized as Cline. The other was a Hath. A Hath was a mix between a fish and a human, it had six gills and a large dorsal fin on its head, it also featured unusual a jam jar shape container with a green liquid which bubble when it breathed or spoke. Both were wearing combat uniforms.
‘Jenny, you come...’ the screen was blanked to black by Jenny who laughed as she broke into hyper speed ready to break through to the next system. Jenny was a small girl, she had blonde golden hair which was tied into a pony tail; she wore a tight green top and black combat trousers.
In the Lontolin system a small black box about the size of an average human speed quickly around space. Jenny flew through the system barrier crashes straight into it...
The TARDIS bounce randomly. Two figures were inside the TARDIS. A fair tall women wearing a white top and jeans with thin features whose hair flew around covering her face as she hung onto one of the crafts many rusted railings. The other was the Doctor. A tall man with a blue suit and purple tie, his hair was scruffy and he face wore and school boy smile as he body hit a button as the ship bounced forward playing ‘Shaking Stevens-Christmas’ he laughed as his companion Demi Lort cleared her golden hair away from her face as the ship came to a steady halt. The TARDIS was a Blue Police Box from the outside and a massive golden brown room inside. He turned off the music which was playing and smiled. ‘6012 on the planet Jungdo 7’ said the Doctor he gave his well known grin which Demi had grown to like.
‘Jungdo 7 is an earth colony by this stage you know’ he said in an anorak style.
‘Is it tell me more?’ she replied hinting her sarcastically.
‘Well you see...’ he broke off as he saw her face ‘You were joking’ Demi nodded. ‘Come then’ said the Doctor. Before he could put on his large brown coat and leave; a beeping noise came from the TARDIS console. He ran over inspecting the device. The small round bulb light up emitting a beep every time it did. ‘What’s it for Doctor?’ said Demi interested for real this time. ‘No idea’ he turned to smile at her isn’t that brilliant’. ‘Seriously Doctor, what is it?’ Demi said unsatisfied
‘It’s to remind me about something oh well I sure I’ll remember without it’
He grabbed Demi’s hand. ‘Miss Lort’ he said with a cheeky smile.
‘Doctor’ she returned the smile.
They step out into the unknown.
The Doctor breathed the air. 6012 had such a distinctive smell. Lemongrass, Raspberry and roses; shame 6013 smelt of fish.
He looked around. Then he saw a crashed ship. He chuckled as he began his sprint. Demi had just grabbed her out and step outside the TARDIS. She sighed as she saw the Doctor running his coat flapping behind him.
Jenny climbed out of her ship.
The Doctor ran straight past her and examined the ship. He was like an excited schoolboy doing a science experiment. Demi went to the strange girl.
‘Hi’
‘Hi’
‘I’m Demi’
‘Jenny’
‘WHAT?’ said the Doctor. He stood up turned round with a smile 2 foot wide. Jenny returned the smile before they hugged.
‘Demi this is my daughter’
‘Daughter?’ she looked at Jenny ‘How old were you then?’
‘Long story. So Jenny alive?’
‘You bet’
‘Crashed?’
‘Oh Well Done’ Demi smirked she was beginning to like Jenny already.
‘How?’
‘An object hit me probably landed not far from here’
‘We’ll see in the morning. The air is carnivorous at night’
‘Well lets go to the TARDIS then’ Demi began said as she nodded back in the direction of were the TARDIS had landed.
‘Nah the City Dome is only a bit away’ the Doctor smiled.
They started walking.
‘What about my ship will it be alright?’ Jenny turned to look at the heap of battered metal.
‘Yeah’ the Doctor ignored the fact Demi had stop and already was about 5 metres in front.
The Doctor, Jenny and Demi, continued their trip towards the large city.
'So you’re his daughter' said Demi turning to Jenny
'Yeah' Jenny smiled.
'So how old are you?'
'About a Day'
Demi stopped things just got weird with the Doctor but go back to her death home or deal with weirdness the choice was an easy one.
'How does that work?' she said running after them.
'She’s a generated anomaly'
Demi raised the Doctor an eyebrow.
'Oh forgot. Erm...' he looked at Jenny she shrugged 'had to be there'
They made it to the crystal dome to the city. A metal door stood in their way.
'How do we get in?' said Jenny 'We could climb' she said looking to the top of the dome which met the pale pink sky.
'We could use the Tardis' said the Doctor looking back at the horizon were the Tardis was.
'Or...' said Demi walking to the door 'We could use the Door handle'
she turned the round wheel and pulled open the door. She was about to walk in when her golden hair was caught in a breeze and tangled round her face.
The Doctor and Jenny laughed.
'Air release' said the Doctor still laughing.
They walked inside.
They were met by an armed welcoming party...
‘Tell me you’re name?’ a woman in black combat uniform. She had dirty fair hair tied back in a ponytail.
They’d been sitting for about 5 minutes.
‘I’ve told you I’m the Doctor, this is Demi and that is Jenny’
‘The Doctor isn’t a real name’
‘Fine, Dr John Smith’
‘Oh Ha, Ha everyone knows that John Smith has been a banned name for 30 years’
‘John Doe then’
‘This is getting ann…’
‘Oh let them off Jean’ said a young man of about 25 with blonde hair.
‘They didn’t have passes and you call me Captain on duty’
‘Yes but it is Christmas after all’
‘That’s what the tinsel was for’ smiled the Doctor.
‘OK Go on but next time you don’t have your passes. Well you know the punishment’
They walked round the citadel.
‘Shops?’ said Demi pointing at the line of shops sitting like obedient dogs in a row.
‘Humans never change’ the Doctor was sick of shops they never made him really pleased once you see one TK Max you’ve seen them all.
‘What currency do they use?’ asked Demi.
‘Credit stamps’ Demi hinted the Doctor she need money by putting out of her hand.
He shook it. Jenny laughed.
The Doctor joined her. ‘OK her you go’ he said rummaging in his pockets.
‘Euro, Gallifreyian Golon, Telos Diamonds and Credit Stamp’ he handed her a long strip which looked like part of a computer.
‘Cheers’ she ran off.
Jenny nodded to the Doctor. He had her one. He looked in his pocket. There were not one credit stamp left.
He looked around. Jenny and Demi were already hidden in the crowd.
‘Any one got change for a Euro’
The Doctor joined the crowd in search of one of the two.
‘You again’ Demi turned as she was tapped on the shoulder. It was the man who’d let them go Scot free from that Jail.
‘Demi wasn’t it’
‘Yeah and yours’
‘Demetrius’ he laughed.
‘What’s so funny?’
‘Demi and Demetrius has a nice ring to it’
‘Are you asking me out?’
‘Well, yeah…no, I mean. Would you say yes?’
‘Go on then you can take me for Dinner I’m starving’
‘Jenny, oh Jenny’ the Doctor shouted.
‘What?’ said Jenny appearing out of a fruit stall.
‘Oh Arobeein melons, to die for’
‘Two credits’ said the man behind the stall.
‘Jenny?’
She sighed giving the man the stamp.
‘And you’re meant to be the parent’
Demi and Demetrius were seated in a clean white café. Demi drank some Hot Chocolate which Demetrius had recommended. Demetrius watched her. She seemed out of place her clothes, her appearance and even the way she spoke.
‘What?’ Demi finally noticed the way he was looking at her.
‘It’s You’
‘Oh Don’t start this, I’ve heard it all.’
‘Yeah’
‘Yeah what?’
‘Tell me what you’ve heard’
‘Well grab you coat love you’ve been pulled, you could launch a thousand ships, you are…’
‘OK. I get the idea.’
‘Well you don’t want to hear what they say when they’ve had too many’ Demetrius nearly choked on his sandwich to Demi’s amusement.
A ship floated above the planet. It was large and made of silver metal. It had thee appearance of a cruise liner in space.
‘Geal Bel Flotch. You should of’ said a huge green creature with a belly that suggested it had to many mince pies. ‘You know me, Hol’ replied the male creature with the same appearance handing her a small present.
‘Will this planet do for our holiday?’ said Hol
‘I’ll scan’
His large clawed nails pressed the large buttons which looked like smarties compared to this nail.
‘Ruddy Human Colony’ said Geal with annoyance. ‘But?’
‘What is it?’
‘A silver life form’
‘Silver very valuable on Sol 3’
‘And a living organism’
‘We could fetch a large price for that’
‘I for see a wealthy new year, Hol’
‘Indeed Geal. Indeed’
Demi and Demetrius walked out of the shop.
‘So’ said Demetrius
‘So?’
‘So meet you for lunch tomorrow’
‘But isn’t it Christmas Day tomorrow’
‘Yeah but it’s just me’
‘Oh because it’s just me’
‘Oh so you and the Doctor aren’t’
‘No’
‘And Jenny’
‘That’s his Daughter’
‘Well Goodbye’ said Demetrius walking away.
‘He’s sweet. Completely rubbish but sweet’ Demi thought to herself.
The Doctor and Jenny ran across the street towards Demi.
‘Where were you?’ asked Jenny
‘Oh with Demetrius’
‘Who?’ they chorused.
‘Oh that guard who got who out’
‘OK. So where are we going to stay tonight’ asked Jenny
‘Erm…Hotel’
‘At Christmas! No Chance’ Demi argued.
They sat in a two bedroom suite.
‘You were saying Demi’
‘Luck’ she said turning away.
After a long argument the Doctor lay on the hard sofa. While Jenny and Demi took a bed each.
‘These beds are soooo comfortable aren’t they Demi’
Demi laughed.
‘Oh ha, ha Just get some sleep’
Demi and Jenny looked were long sleeping the Doctor hadn’t sleep. He looked out the hotel window. Contemplating, ‘Christmas Day’ he said looking the digital watch his wrist. He hated this time of year when he got the chance to think he remember taking his family to the Christmases once every Gallifreyain year. A tear dripped down his face. You walked over and knelt by the sleeping Jenny.
‘You’re all I’ve got left’ he sighed and went back to looking out the window.
The three Suns rose. The sunlight shone through. Demi awoke straight away. Jenny followed.
‘Doctor did you sleep?’ asked Demi she was concerned he looked different his usual smile hidden.
‘No, but it’s Christmas’
‘Merry Christmas’
‘Yeah Merry Christmas, Dad’
‘Well let’s look at this thing that hit you’
‘I going to lunch with Demetrius so I won’t go if you don’t mind’
‘Awww’ the Doctor and Jenny laughed as they headed for the door.
‘Oh Shut Up’
‘Not you again’ Jean as they headed for the Citadel exit. ‘Where are your passes?’
‘Here’ the Doctor said flashing his psychic paper.
‘Why didn’t you do that yesterday?’
‘Yes why didn’t I?’
‘Oh just get out’
Demetrius smiled as Demi ran through the crowd and hugged him.
‘Merry Christmas’ he said as he pushed her off him.
‘Same to you’
‘So where are we going?’
‘Come On’ he said grabbing her and as they ran down the street.
He reminded her of the Doctor when she first met him. Full of life and up for a laugh.
The Doctor and Jenny had made it to the black coffin like box.
‘Look what I’ve found.’
‘A Silver bow and arrow’ said the Doctor
‘Yeah how did you know?’
‘That’s the nemesis. A living metal made by the Time Lords with massive power’
‘I was desiccated to look after it and keep the power from getting into the wrong hands. I was meant to be relieved of it after my ninth regeneration but…’
‘They died’ Jenny knew how the Doctor felt about talking about the time war.
‘Yeah’
‘Let’s open it’ said the Doctor ‘I needed to give it orders to fly off into the sunset’
‘No!’ they turned two 8 foot tall beasts stood there. Slitheen.
‘Not You’
‘So this living metal is powerful you say’
‘Well…’
‘Don’t say Doctor’ shouted Jenny as she was grasped by the male Slitheen.
‘Doctor, you would not let this female die. We know of you. You ruined our plans many times. Now you will help us become Gods’
‘OK’ said the Doctor. ‘The Nemesis is now yours’ the stood aside. Jenny was released.
‘They need the Bow and arrow don’t they’ Jenny whispered to the Doctor
‘Yep’
‘So we run before they find out’
‘Yep’
They ran.
Demi and Demetrius walked into the small restaurant.
‘I go here every Christmas’ he said.
‘It’s nice’ there was a small tree in the corner it was light by about 20 small lights.
It was deserted apart from two elderly couples. They sat around one long table.
‘Hello Demetrius’ said the elderly women opposite them.
‘Hello Mrs McCrery’
‘Oh a lady friend this year. Told ya he’d get one Arthur’ he elbowed the man beside her.
Demi laughed. A large turkey was brought round.
‘I thought all this wouldn’t be around in the future’
‘What do you mean future?’
‘From what my parents told me’ he had to be carefully of what see said around people the Doctor had told her that many times.
‘Well it did?’
‘From about 3076 to 4090 no off world colonies celebrated it’
‘Why? Thought it would be offense to the other species on that planet’
‘But there were no native species here’
‘Yeah but we didn’t colonise here till about 300 years ago’
‘Let’s not get into politics; it is Christmas’ said McCrery.
The turkey was cut open. Golden stuffing came out like snow.
Strange vegetables were served but Demi thought it would be better not to ask.
‘Merry Christmas Demi’ said Demetrius.
‘You to’ she said whipping away mash from her mouth.
Meanwhile, things weren’t so merry for the Doctor and Jenny. They’d got about twenty metres away from the two power hungry slitheen before they realised the trick and had started their hunt.
They’d made it to the entrance. Jean open the door.
‘Passes’
‘Oh shut up Jean’ said the Doctor pushing past and closing the door. Jenny grabbed her gun ready to shot them down in the chaos she’d forgotten all about her weapon.
The Doctor opened the door slightly as the slitheen reached it.
‘Passes’ smirked the Doctor.
‘These are our passes’ one of the Slitheen putting it claw in the gapped and opening the Door.
‘The silver organism won’t responded. You have tricked us’
‘Nope. Just kept certain information to ourselves’ Jenny said winking.
‘You will tell us’ said Geal Bel Fotch who was making his way towards the Doctor.
‘Will take this instead’ the Doctor took a scathe of Vinegar from his pocket ripping it opened, he throw it at Geal.
‘Geal’ said Hol Bel Fotch.
Geal exploded. Green mess hitting the glass walls in the corridor.
‘This isn’t the last time you’ll hear from the Slitheen Doctor’
‘Yeah, yeah been there done that. Oh and Hol, merry Christmas’
‘Don’t patronise me Doctor’ she stomped off like a child in a tantrum.
He turned to Jenny and Jean.
‘Knew there was a reason. I asked Gary who owned the chippy in Southgate for scathes.’
‘Well Doctor, I’m sure the President of this Section wants to thank you’ said Jean.
‘No. No, thanks.’ The Doctor turned to Jenny ‘Isn’t that right Jenny’
‘Yeah but admit it, it is nice’
‘Yeah but there one thing we’ve over looked’
‘What’
‘You don’t have the bow and arrow’ the looked at Jenny’s hand. They only held a metal gun with a large red see through space on the side.
‘I must have drop them’
‘But then…’
‘Hears to Christmas’ said Demetrius raising a glass.
It smashed the water covering the floor in a pool of wet glass.
‘What was that?’ said Mrs Carey.
‘Doctor’ sighed Demi ‘What have you done?’
The Doctor ran out the door. He reached Hol pretty quickly,
‘Doctor. My Revenge is now.’ Said Hol.
‘What are you going to do?’ the Doctor watched as the Silver woman grabbed the bow and arrow.
‘This planet is so rich’
‘In what?’
‘Minerals of course’
‘All it comes down to. Profit’
‘Call it an addiction’
‘You knowing I’ll stop you’
She laughed.
‘You. The Man with No Weapons left.’
‘Yes but I do have friends. Fire’
‘Jenny and a line of 10 soldiers aimed at Hol with Vinegar bottles. They squeezed them. Hol was covered in the deadly substance.
‘Oh…’ she exploded.
‘There should have been another way, blah, blah’
‘That was easy’ said Jenny.
‘Yeah supposed it was’
Something erupted from behind them. The Nemesis rose into the sky.
‘The slitheen most have already gave its orders. Come on to the TARDIS.’
The restaurant shook. The tree collapses and the turkey fell off the table.
Every where shook.
‘It’s staring’ said Jenny looking up.
‘Come on then’ the Doctor opened the TARDIS door.
The TARDIS floated towards the Nemesis it had its arms stretched out.
‘The TARDIS. Is trying to effect the Silver but we need a better connection. Jenny take the sonic screwdriver.’
‘Yeah’ he took the device from his hands.
‘And hold on to those rails and point it at the Nemesis’
‘Got Ya’
Jenny opened the doors. Stardust swirled round the Nemesis.
She pointed the screwdriver at it.
The Doctor ran round his trusty ship console. Smoke pumped from it.
The Nemesis started shaking. The Silver creature turned red hot. It exploded sending Jenny flying back and the doors slammed shut.
The planet stopped shaking.
‘It’s over for good’ the Doctor helped Jenny up.
‘Thank Goodness’ said Mr McCrery.
‘Demi’ said Demetrius.
‘Yeah’
‘Remember I left straight after out lunch date yesterday’
‘Yeah’
‘Well’ he got down on one knee.
‘Oh you romantic git. The answer’s yes’
He smiled and hugged her. To the claps of the restaurant.
‘So you need a ship’ Jean and Jenny walked round the landing bay.
‘Yeah that one will never fly again’
‘Well as a thank you, the President says you should be offered a job here. And of course the ship comes with the job’
‘Really can I look inside?’
‘OK’ she handed her the ignition key.
Jenny went inside.
‘So what do you think?’
‘Sorry. I can’t hear you over the engine’
‘What engine?’
‘This engine’ she turned the key. Fire erupted from the back.
It floated up.
‘What are you doing?’
‘Leaving’ the large pristine ship. Speed up into the sky.
The Doctor, Demi and Demetrius walked to the TARDIS.
‘So Cheerio Demetrius’
‘Doctor’ said Demi.
‘What?’
‘I’m staying. Me and Demetrius are engaged.
‘Oh. Well come on get your stuff.’
Demi walked inside.
‘Merry Christmas Demetrius’ smiled the Doctor standing in the door way of the blue box.
‘Same to you’
‘I’ll just go help her’ he pointed inside.
‘OK’
Suddenly the ship started to fade away.
‘DOCTOR YOU…’ shouted Demi as it faded.
Demetrius laughed. He was only but it was Christmas.
‘And she claimed they weren’t together. Merry Christmas’
THE END
